The Lord has a case against His people: My people, what have I done to you?

The Lord has shown you what is good. To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Your tongues speak deceitfully, therefore, I have begun to destroy you. You will plant but not harvest.

The prophet laments the righteous have been swept from the land, all hands are skilled in doing evil.

The prophet watches in hope for the Lord, waits for God.

Plead to God to shepherd His people. There’s no one like God, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of His inheritance and does not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.

The Lord will again have compassion on us, will tread our sins underfoot, will be faithful to Jacob, and show love to Abraham.

- Fidelity - He has shown us what is good. To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with God. How shall I know God’s will from His mercy and righteousness? How am I being humble in my service?

The Lord is a jealous and avenging God. The Lord is slow to anger but great in power; the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished.

The Lord is good but with an overwhelming flood he will make an end of Nineveh; He will pursue His foes into the realm of darkness.

Nineveh is like a pool whose water is draining away.

- Identity - Although they have allies and are numerous, they will be destroyed and pass away. Looking at the world surrounding me, how do I see God’s plan unfolding?

How did Habakkuk’s life change through his conversion with God?

Prophet Habakkuk calls on the Lord for help, but He does not listen. He cries out violence to the Lord but He does not save.

The Lord raising up the Babylonians as judgment.

Habakkuk asked the Lord, why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?

The Lord answers, the righteous person will live by his faithfulness, but woe to him who builds his house by unjust gain, gives drink to his neighbors till they are drunk, trusts idols of his own creation that cannot speak.

Habakkuk stand in awe of the Lord’s deed, waits patiently for the day of calamity. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to tread on the heights.

- Identity - Habakkuk truthfully asked the Lord of his doubt and continued to seek answers until he could understand. How does a prayer like this inspire me?

The word of the Lord that came to Zephaniah during the reign of Josiah king of Judah.

The Lord will stretch out His hand against Judah and against all who live in Jerusalem. He will destroy every remnant of Baal worship in this place.

The day of the Lord is near, He will punish the officials and the king’s sons.

That day will be a day of wrath, a day of distress, and a day of battle cry against the fortified cities and against corner towers.

- Identity - Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the Lord’s wrath. What do I value the most? What do I lean on?

Advised those who are humble of the land, who do what He commands, see righteousness, seek humility; perhaps they will be sheltered on the day of the Lord’s anger.

Canaan, land of the Philistines, I will destroy you, and none will be left.

Moab will become like Sodom, the Ammonites like Gomorrah-a place of weeds and salt pits, a wasteland forever.

You Cushites, too, will be slain by my sword. I will stretch out my hand against the north and destroy Assyria, leaving Nineveh utterly desolate and dry as the desert.

Woe to the city of oppressors, rebellious and defiled!

- Integrity - The Lord points out the four sins of Jerusalem: obeys no one, accepts no correction, does not trust in the Lord, does not draw near to God. Reflect on myself, do I listen to God or myself? Do I accept correction when straying away? Do I lean on Him or on my own ability? Am I close to God and looking up to His glory?

Week 69 Day 6: Delay in Construction ⇧ ⇮
Question
What were the reasons people did not want to build the temple?

The prophet Haggai dispute the people for delaying the construction of the temple. Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?

Give careful thought to your ways. Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored.
-
The Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel, the spirit of Joshua, and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the Lord Almighty, their God.

The Lord says: In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house, and in this place I will grant peace.

The Lord rebukes the unclean offering which has caused failures prior to temple construction.

Meditation: My Story
- Identity - Before construction of the temple, the people have planted much, but harvested little. They ate, but never have enough. They drank, but never have their fill. They put on clothes but were not warm. They earned wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it. When God is not the center of our lives, this is our Spiritual life, never fulfilled. Where does my fulfillment come from? How is God the center of my life?
