Week 16 Day 1: Pushing up North ⇧ ⇩
Question
How did Moses summarize the way Israelites complete their wandering in the wilderness and the final push up north?
Scripture Reading
Meditation: God’s Story
-
All the men died 38 years after they refused to enter the land of Canaan due to fear. Now, Israelites obeyed God’s command and pushed northward. They entered the land of Edomites, Moabites, and Ammonites peacefully. However, they battled Sihon king of Heshbon when they went through the land as God began to put terror and fear of the Israelites on all nations under heaven. (Deu. 2:25)
-
Moses asked God to let him cross the Jordan river but God did not let him. God did, however, let him to go up to mount Pisgah to see the promised land.
Meditation: My Story
-
Walking with God - Forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything. We are often burdened by unimportant things and unable to enter God’s rest even though we lack nothing. Can I let God take the burden off my shoulder?
-
Community - Moses encouraged Joshua: Do not be afraid of them; the Lord your God himself will fight for you (Deu. 3:22) Is there someone I can give encouragement to?
-
Community - Those two and half tribes gotten their lands before entering the promised land helped the rest of the people enter the promised land before settling on their one land. Have I thought about sharing what I have while indulging in God’s blessings?

Meditation: My Story
-
Walking with God - As a result of obeying God’s law, will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about all these decrees and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.” Is my head knowledge of God’s law real wisdom? Do I have the law embedded deep in my heart?
-
Walking with God - God forbids idolatry because we believe what can be seen and ignore the unseen truth, way, and life. Do I believe my own eyes and what I see more than the unseen God?

Week 16 Day 3: The Ten Commandments ⇧ ⇩
Question
What were the ten commandments?
Scripture Reading
Meditation: God’s Story
-
God gave Israelites the laws in chapters 5 to 11.
-
God reiterates the ten commandments to the new generation of Israelites. The ten commandments are the essence of the law. The first four are about God, the last six are about people.
-
Moses stressed “it was not with our ancestors that the Lord made this covenant, but with us, with all of us who are alive here today.” (Deu. 5:3)
Meditation: My Story
- Walking with God - The Israelites feared God as they heard His voice in the fire. Jesus said: “because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29) Do I fear God from the bottom of my heart so that I would obey His law and bring blessings to myself and descendants?

Week 16 Day 4: Love Only God ⇧ ⇩
Question
How did Moses encourage the Israelites to despise idol and love only God?
Scripture Reading
Meditation: God’s Story
-
Moses told the Israelites: “The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” “Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”
-
God gave the Anakites to the Israelites. Kill them without sympathy, do not establish covenant, do not marry, and destroy all their idols.
-
Moses reminded the Israelites not to fear the strong Anakites in the land of Canaan. He asked them to remember what God had done to the pharaoh in Egypt.
Meditation: My Story
-
Walking with God - Moses asked the Israelites to not forget God after they enter the land of milk and honey and enjoy its richness. We always want more of the worldly wealth instead of God. Think about all the blessings God has given me. Do I thank Him for what I have, or do I complain to Him for what I lack?
-
Fidelity - 6:20-24 is about teaching the next generations to fear God and remind them the blessings. Am I a good example of God’s blessings? Can I testify to my children for what I have received from the Lord?
-
Identity - In 7:7-8, Moses reminded the Israelites that God loved them not because they were better in anyway, it was simply God’s love and faithfulness to all those who love Him and obey His law that He is merciful to them for thousands of generations. What makes me stand before others with full confidence? Is it because I am better or is it due to my relationship with God?

Week 16 Day 5: Remember True God ⇧ ⇩
Question
Moses reminded the people whom they can truly rely on.
Scripture Reading
Meditation: God’s Story
-
Moses reminded the Israelites that God had provided them everything they needed during the forty years of wandering. They were given manna, their clothes did not wear out, and their feet did not swell. Reliance on God was the source of their blessings, not material wealth.
-
The Anakites and their city were tall and strong. But Israelites was able to defeat them by obeying God.
-
Israelites defeated Anakites not because their righteousness or integrity, but it was the Anakites’ wickedness. Israelites have rebelled against God many times. Moses reminded them that it was God’s mercy that they were spared in the forty rebellious years of wandering.
Meditation: My Story
-
Walking with God - Jesus quoted a familiar verse when Satan tempted Him: “man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” Am I facing challenges that may seem better solved with man’s solutions, but I’d rather put it in front of God and ask Him for guidance?
-
Identity - Moses reminded the Israelites that it wasn’t their righteousness that defeated the Anakites. Do I often display my self-righteousness or let others see God’s blessings?
