Week 43 Day 4: The Righteous Job
Question:Why Do People Fear God?
Scripture Reading
Meditation: God’s Story
- This passage sets the scene for the dialogues that follow in the Book of Job.
- Job, a man from the land of Uz, was blameless and upright. He feared God and shunned evil.
- Job regularly offered burnt offerings according to the number of his children.
- Satan claimed that Job feared God because of God’s blessings upon him.
- Job lost his livestock, flocks, camels, and children, yet he did not sin or accuse God of wrongdoing.
- Satan struck Job again, afflicting him with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head. His wife urged him to curse God, but Job did not sin.
- Job’s three friends, Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar, mourned for him and came to comfort him.
Meditation: My Story
- Fidelity - Job regularly offered burnt offerings for each of his children, concerned that they might have sinned and inwardly turned away from God. How should I pray for my children?
- Identity - After losing his wealth, Job fell to the ground in worship and said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.” How do I view my own wealth and possessions?
